The Maia Bang violin method is a useful guide to early violin beginner essentials that every violinist – young or adult – or even parent or guardian can and should look into owning.
Ms. Maia Bang, a Protege of Leopold Auer
Inspired by her time with the great Professor Leopold Auer – one of the greatest of violin pedagogues of the 20th-century – Maia Bang’s work combines her time as a student of Auer’s with a range of violin schools the world over – from German to Belgian and French – besides.
Escalating Difficulty
Bang’s method in setting out this written violin work mirrors Auer’s especially in terms of escalating difficulty – the work moves from simpler to more challenging, as Auer also advises – around the framework of a developmental arc or trajectory.
Melodically Pleasing for Education
Unusual, for Bang, is the highly melodic nature of the pieces that she sets out for the young violinist – they are to be ‘pleasing’, as Bang writes.
Diagrams – Parts of the Violin and Other Things
Also highly helpful are Bang’s diagrams and pictures which set forth ideal bow and violin holding and placement positions, as well as parts of the violin – all labelled for ease of reading and remembrance.
Pictures labelled ‘peg’, ‘tailpiece’, ‘chinrest’, and even ‘the purfling’ make the violin literally come alive for those new to the instrument, and make of the book as an easy and also helpful beginner’s guide.
